Daddy’s here (Sleeping)
“I get up around 4pm from my nap and then I’m just working in my studio here. Then around eight o’clock I go to the gym at the J.K. Place Hotel, which is a block away and is such a charming hotel, because it’s so discreet. It has a gym in the basement. It’s very small but it’s always empty, so I can work out shirtless. Afterwards, Michèle comes and meets me, we have dinner in the little bar on the corner, then we come home and watch a documentary or a dumb TV show. But it doesn’t last very long, because, thankfully, Michèle usually conks out, because I don’t want to watch TV for hours. I’m okay with half an hour of TV.
I smoke three or four cigarettes, and I just look back on the day and I think about how great a coffee’s going to be in the morning. I have a dressing room next to the bedroom, which is fully stocked with Fever-Tree ginger beer, cupcakes and water. I just wear boxers at night. I’ll sometimes put on some perfume too. I don’t really like perfume during the day as I don’t want to intrude in people’s spaces with it. But it’s fun at night to put it on and go to bed with it, and then, in the morning, shower it off.
I like living where I live in Paris because it’s very austere. There are a lot of embassies so there’s almost a sinister edge, because it feels like there’s a lot of security. The families here are very reserved and not so friendly, which is fine with me. We have a terrace that overlooks the garden of the Ministry of Defence, and they have security guards patrolling the garden. Everything is very quiet, but then you hear the crunch of the security guard’s feet on the gravel. It is the most delicious, secure feeling. I feel so safe. Daddy’s here. Also, there is this huge tree. There are a lot of beautiful old trees in this garden, but there’s one that’s just really huge, and when I’m in bed, I’m just communing with that tree right outside the window. It’s just us.”
