TWENTY FOUR MARCH, TWO THOUSAND AND FOURTEEN

With the new issue of FANTASTIC MAN finished and at the printer we decided to take a break from the office and test-drive the winged car that JEREMY SCOTT designed for SMART. Hilarious! For all sorts of safety regulations, the wings are not of the magnitude that Mr. SCOTT had originally envisioned, but they’re remarkable nonetheless. Practically speaking, they’re useless (if anything, they create something of a blind spot for the driver) but they do have a fabulously magnetising effect on the world outside. To drive this car is to know how it must feel to be a minor celebrity on a trip to the supermarket, with everyone pointing, staring and laughing as you go about your business.

Mr. SCOTT didn’t just add the wings to the popular two-seater; he also redesigned the headlights to give the car a somewhat puzzled expression, and the interior is all white quilted leather, lending it a BARBIE meets CHANEL feel. Or should we just say MOSCHINO, the Italian fashion house that Mr. SCOTT is currently showering with his fashion/entrepreneurial magic. The SMART company expects to sell about 100 of these cars, christened SMART FORJEREMY, so they’ll forever be rare and exclusive.
