A perfect snack tip for January now that everyone is busy getting into shape for Spring: all-natural liquorice root or zoethout in Dutch. The root is chewed upon until soft, at which point it releases its juices. It is then chewed upon until the stick loses flavour and the fibre is then spat out. A bit like chewing gum, except made of wood. The process is a mixed pleasure as the action feels a bit prehistoric, but the taste is entirely satisfying. It even gives one a bit of an energy kick – sans calories of course.
