SANDALS FOR 2010 #1
YVES SAINT LAURENT

TEN MAY, TWO THOUSAND AND TEN

In preparation for summer, several readers have requested advice and recommendations regarding the correct sandals to wear. Sandals pose an annual dilemma for fashion houses, too, since it takes true design skill to create a sandal that is either a dignified paragon of balance, or a feast of utter outlandishness. To celebrate both ends of the spectrum, fashion director Mr. JODIE BARNES has selected various examples of very desirable shoes that fall within the “sandal” category, for this inaugural SANDAL WEEK. First comes this pair of leather YVES SAINT LAURENT sandals with a super chunky stitched sole reminiscent of deeply lined alligator, or the tread of a tyre. The sandal is fastened by way of a neat metal ball that simply pops through a hole in the strap. Facebook  Twitter

  1. World Man About Town:

I am not entirely sure about the sole but I really like these. It is difficult to find nice sandals (Hermes and Camper also made nice ones for summer 2010), and I am not a fan of gladiator sandals, so these are a very welcome suggestion.

  2. edgar:

The psychedelic socks from 5/5 would look so cute with sandals. Maybe not paired with these YSL sandals but with Birkenstock Arizonas or Milanos…so cute! Hairy legs with sandals are nice, too.

  3. Mr Cheap Date:

A sandal = a no go area for me really, as my legs are akin to those of an emaciated chicken or pigeon and I possess toes shaped like nick-nacks (a tasty but unattractive corn snack/crisp fashioned like a witch’s finger, to our non-UK based correspondents). Sorry to put anyone off their afternoon tea n battenburg… so enjoy, muscular limbed fantastic friends, but not pour moi unfortunately.

  4. lineage of influence:

Sandals without doubt have their place, it just happens to be in the bin. They’re bloody awful things.

  5. Hiljá:

    Sandals love socks!

  6. adrian:

Sandals are a question of Time and Space , common sense and good taste naturellement !

  7. bigtony:

Where can I buy this sandal?

  8. purchase bible online:

I wrote a comparable report about this subject but you did a greater career :)

SPRING & SUMMER 2014

What a return! The unmistakable form of Mr. BORIS BECKER, as photographed by his compatriot JUERGEN TELLER, graces the cover of this 19th edition of Fantastic Man – the issue for Spring & Summer 2014. Part of the accompanying interview takes place at tennis legend BORIS’ London home, in the familiar district of WIMBLEDON. Where else, after all, would a six-time GRAND SLAM singles champion choose to live and work? Elsewhere in the issue, a quartet of ELITE MENSWEAR designers – Mr. TOM FORD, Mr. STEFANO PILATI, Mr. ALESSANDRO SARTORI and Mr. BRENDAN MULLANE – are interviewed and photographed as part of unprecedented investigation into the LOFTIEST and most lucrative echelons of the fashion business. The magnificent archive and working practices of the mononymous SNOWDON are discussed at home with the society portraitist. Plus, what is the humble DRY CLEANER actually doing with the garments you hold most dear, why do airline cabin crew particularly adore the celebrated newshound Mr. RICHARD QUEST, and how does one get involved in the fabulous vintological craze that is HYPERDECANTATION? These questions and more are answered in the brilliant new Fantastic Man. Order now
