Never has a collection of clothing been treated to such choreographic fanfare! To herald DIOR HOMME’s Autumn & Winter 2013 fashions, Fantastic Man has produced ROTATION: a series of short dance films that put the creations of designer KRIS VAN ASSCHE through their paces. Each Friday, a new film debuts here, building into a dazzling compendium of modern motion.
Today the first episode: 100% EVERY DAY. All of the alarming intensity of adolescence is played out in this arresting – and largely adlibbed! – performance by 17-year-old RHYS HARDING, who studies at the celebrated Brit School for Performing Arts and Technology. Moving like a man possessed, RHYS throws together elements of the contemporary African-American street-dance craze known as ‘waacking’ with motions borrowed from the ‘vogue’ style that was popularised by a certain American singer at the dawn of the 1990s. As one can see, both styles involve the energetic deployment of the upper arms, and at one point RHYS swings back his limbs in an aggressive stance that’s not unlike the ‘warrior pose’ from yoga. Concerned viewers should be aware that, although RHYS appears here to be a state of heightened agitation, he is actually really enjoying himself. He is a great fan of the light-hearted animations produced by The Walt Disney Company. He also confesses to frequently dancing at London bus stops.
