It’s of course widely known that gold currently is a good investment, and why leave it in a bank safe? These DIOR HOMME ‘Gold01’ sunglasses appear just as the summer is gone, but one wouldn’t have missed them much as the sun barely shone… We particularly like these glasses not only for their golden shine (they’re pure 18K gold), but also for their shape, which is slightly squarer than the traditional aviator, and therefore delightfully beguiling. There’s only 30 pieces made and they retail for £4,775 so we wouldn’t recommend misplacing them.

There’s a fine line between a wonderful luxury item and something that is just silly (and in these times, that is also perhaps indicative of a spirit too much aligned with the insensitivity reputedly shown by lovers of luxury such as Caligula, Imelda Marcos, or Marie Antoinette). These glasses may have crossed it . . .
