Scarcely had Deputy Editor Mr. CHARLIE PORTER returned from a recent trip to New York did he write to enthusiastically recommend a novel discovered in a second hand book shop there. “It’s a reprint of the most extraordinary book ever written by a Pole exiled to Argentina and is worth it for its fabulous cover and fabulous name, which the translators admit they kept in its Polish pronunciation because it sounds way sassier than ‘Pornography’,” says CHARLIE. WITOLD GOMBROMICZ’s 1966 novel examines shifting social mores in wartime Poland, and is, according to PORTER, a “super good read”. For those inclined to peruse before purchase, a Google Books preview may be found here.

While on the topic of Gombrowicz another recommendation is his collection of short stories in Bakakaj – which I actually prefer before Pornography.

I missed this! Gombrowicz is an all time favorite, I hope you’ve read Ferdydurke.
