A highly interesting album that sees the light of day today is one that took three years to record and 30 years to mature before the tapes were discovered in someone’s basement in San Francisco. It is by the late Mr. PATRICK COWLEY, the legendary disco producer of SYLVESTER fame, who recorded this collection of songs with singer Mr. JORGE SOCARRAS in the late seventies. Called CATHOLIC, it’s a wild exploration into the possibilities of merging synthesizers with pop tunes and spoken word. Apart from the occasional unbearable experiment it’s quite an incredible set of spacey, bouncy songs. Especially recommended are a dreamy cover version of DONOVAN’s ‘Hurdy Gurdy Man’ and the wonderfully poppy ‘Burn Brighter Flame’ which in fact sounds quite a bit like artist INGAR DRAGSET’s pop trio ASIA TODAY. The release of the album is greeted with immense joy in San Francisco, where fans are planning a COWLEY tribute party, MEGATRON MAN, on October 18.
