This week’s final crewneck recommendation deals with the quandary of the sleeveless crewneck knit top. Now, why is it that menswear is full of sleeveless V-neck knit tops that give the wearer an instant boring touch, yet nowhere on earth can one find a sleeveless crewneck knit top? It’s totally puzzling, and an issue that should be solved rather sooner than later, as a sleeveless crewneck knit can be amazingly attractive over a short-sleeve T-shirt, and perfectly sharp over a long-sleeve shirt. The photograph above shows a garment that comes close to the solution. It is a red wool top from BALMAIN’s spring/summer 2011 menswear collection with a detail on the left shoulder (seen right, of course) that seems to be borrowed from a fisherman’s jumper, yet the buttons and button holes are missing, making it fall open quite elegantly. It’s very nice, and hopefully BALMAIN’s sympathetic initiative will hereby create a platform for the creation of many more sleeveless crewneck tops as soon as possible.
