Voilà, a new year, and the fashion show marathon for Autumn & Winter 2013-2014 has just begun in London. Yesterday afternoon saw the disclosure of what the perplexing designer JONATHAN SAUNDERS has planned for next winter: an eruption of colours on highly desirable knitwear, delectable bomber jackets and grand coats. Later yesterday evening the collection was celebrated some more, with an exclusive dinner party organised by Mr. SAUNDERS, the SELFRIDGES department store, and, indeed FANTASTIC MAN. For those who missed it: there was smoked Loch Etive trout with a fennel and mixed radish salad for a starter, and filet the beef for main, or sautéed wild and cultivated mushrooms with soft polenta for our vegetarian friends. The guests included the following individuals featured in FANTASTIC MAN: TATE MODERN’s CHRIS DERCON, the fashion critic TIM BLANKS, singer WILLY MOON, gallerist MAUREEN PALEY, tailor PATRICK GRANT, actor RUSSELL TOVEY, writer CHARLIE PORTER, THE XX singer OLIVER SIM, and, of course, JONATHAN SAUNDERS.

Jonothan Saunders’ colorful and sophisticated collection brings me back to the days when Prada was experimenting with the compartmentalized dyed motif on wool in her Fall 2007 Menswear Collection. Here however, he integrates dyed knitwear and laminated wool in a way that the colors appear like a projection of a prism. Much like most of Olafur Eliasson’s art installations. Saunders’ collection is sharp, innovated, and polychromatic. Fantastic!!!
