A splendid place to stay is “THE LONDON EDITION” in Fitzrovia, that delightfully quiet pocket of super-central London between Oxford Circus and the BT Tower. Occupying the site on Berners Street that, until a decade ago, was the stylish but ultimately run-down BERNERS hotel, the project represents a return to form for a majestic building that couldn’t be more conveniently located in terms of FANCY restaurant options. That said, the in-house RESTAURANT is pretty delightful, too, serving excellent British classics such as ROASTED CORNISH SEA BASS amid overblown decor that’s akin to a kitschier version of THE WOLSELEY. Guest rooms are wood-panelled to cosy perfection, but the photo artwork in some rooms depicts an angry-looking woman; not always the thing one wants to wake up with, but it’s easily covered with a T-shirt. Alternatively, ask the staff for a solution – they’re literally the friendliest and most helpful people ever to be employed by a hotel!
