One of the more difficult menswear garments is, of course, the knitted polo jumper with a zip instead of button closure. The zippered polo has an incredible dulling effect on the wearer, which is where the challenge for designers comes in. (At the recent menswear shows in Milan, there were a couple of super-fabulous showy highlights – VERSACE, PRADA, UMIT BENAN, etc. – but few designers actually challenging themselves.) However, the return of the zippered polo did happen at Z ZEGNA – more than once in fact. And it looked very appealing, thanks also to a good, fitted shape, and an array of wonderful colour combinations. The show marked the arrival of designer of Mr. PAUL SURRIDGE, who previously worked at JIL SANDER and PRADA and brings a delightful modern aesthetic to Z ZEGNA. Well done!
