Mr. LUIS VENEGAS, the amazing creator of the magazines CANDY, FANZINE 137 and ELECTRIC YOUTH!, has just put out the 236-page picture book I KNOW YOU FROM NEW YORK, a glorification of the art of partying in New York City and an ode to party snapping. VENEGAS’ tome comes in the cheerful tradition of photographers such as RON GALELLA and PATRICK McMULLAN, but now with contributions by HANUK, JD FERGUSON, JEREMY KOST, GERARD ESTADELLA and celebrity columnist Mr. DEREK BLASBERG, who, unbeknownst to us, is quite an efficient photographer. The book is published by CAROLINA HERRERA and coincides with HERRERA’s new men’s fragrance, 212 VIP MEN, but can of course be enjoyed either scentless or drowned in eau de toilette. We gave Mr. VENEGAS from Madrid, Spain a call.
FANTASTIC MAN: What’s your tip to get into a party you haven’t been invited to?
LUIS VENEGAS: “I don’t know. I have no interest in getting into a party that I’m not invited to.”
Are parties in New York really better than elsewhere?
“Yes, because of the New Yorkers – they have a certain childish naivety when it comes to partying and an endless desire to have fun.”
Do you have a party dress tip for young gentlemen?
“Well, it depends on the kind of party, of course, but in general I suggest all young gentlemen to get a clean shave. I don’t understand beards on guys under 40.”
What’s your party posing tip?
When is it time to leave the party?
“When you realise that it won’t get any better than this. Never bother to say goodbye to anyone when you’re leaving and make sure you head out with a different partner than the one you arrived with.”
A limited edition of 1500 copies of I Know You From New York were printed – the copy photographed above is number 218. It is sold exclusively at CAROLINA HERRERA boutiques worldwide.
