The death of the graphic novelist HARVEY PEKAR at the age of 70 was announced last month. It causes the desire to revisit his AMERICAN SPLENDOR graphic novels, and also to hunt out footage of PEKAR as a guest on the DAVID LETTERMAN, sterling appearances where PEKAR berated the host, reveled in his own insecurities, and also stated the case for the graphic novel as a serious, valid branch of literature. PEKAR is hilarious, and a good hour could be spent watching each of his appearances on LETTERMAN, many of which can be viewed by following this link.
