With the new issue of FANTASTIC MAN being printed and bound, we’re in a celebratory mood. Thus, this week is Cocktail Week. And what better way to celebrate Cocktail Week than in sunny Spain. So we asked our dear friend Mr. DANIEL RIERA to photograph five of his favourite cocktails. First up, the PURPLE EMPEROR, which isn’t purple at all. An invention of the BANKER’S BAR at the MANDARIN ORIENTAL in Barcelona, it mixes ginger with sake and dark rum. “It’s a subtle combination – the taste is really refined – and quite drinkable. I’ve had three…maybe four in a row,” says DANIEL. DANIEL makes a point of enjoying the PURPLE EMPEROR whenever he’s near Passeig de Gràcia, the street that the MANDARIN ORIENTAL is located on. “The bar is in an old bank, which my father used to work at when I was growing up. I would meet him outside when he finished work. So every time I’m in the area, I make a point of stopping by.”

Daria:
I absolutely love the idea of an orange colored cocktail named purple. Art is unobvious.
Alexander:
Wow, what an amazing photograph!
Charles:
Brilliant idea to have cocktail week (to get us through to spring)
Peter:
Not being anywhere near Barcelona, just how does one create a Purple Emperor? (and, of course, subsequent cocktails that follow!)
GG Bridge:
Agree with Peter… btw, love the photo!
