Fans of postmodern pastiche, MALCOLM McLAREN, and the city of Paris should take note: Mr. McLAREN’s newest project, PARIS, CAPITAL OF THE XXIST CENTURY, unites all three in the form of an hour-long blend of archival advertising footage showcasing the French capital, set to various texts. It debuted last week at the SWISS INSTITUTE in New York, with the impressive collection of luminaries from all walks of New York City life one might expect in attendance. The film will make a run through Europe later this summer with stops at the PINAKOTHEK DER MODERNE in Munich, the TATE BRITAIN in London, and the PALAIS DE TOKYO in Paris. Other locations, including the FONDATION BEYELER in Riehen, Switzerland, are under negotiation.
The image above shows the home-movie style of the presentation and was shot by Mr. KRISTOPHER HOUSER at the film’s premiere in New York.
