Lacing one’s shoe is not confined to the realm of the criss-cross. In fact, a variety of lacing methods exist to cater to a variety of different footwear types – take the ladder lace, for instance, which is worn by military paratroopers. Starting at the base, the ends are run on the outside of the shoe into the next eyelet. The ends are crossed as normal, but then fed under the vertical lace before being fed into the eyelet directly above. (A full explanation and diagram may be found here.) The method is intended for taller boots, such as pair seen above made by GRENSON for BARBOUR, as it makes tightening the lower sections easier. How intriguing! They are worn with trousers by BOTTEGA VENETA.

Peter:
Also used for safety. If in battle, you get an injured foot, it is easier to cut the laces to remove the boot.
CASHMERE MAFIA:
Love what Barbour is doing these days, they seem to reinvent every season. cheers

I lace my boots like this, much harder to get into bed in a rush.
