One of the nicer happenings at Milan Fashion Week was the presentation by Mr. UMIT BENAN, a designer who hails from Istanbul but who resides in Milan. He had his models flown in from his mother country and, gathered in a luscious garden, they drank coffee and amused themselves with boardgames. UMIT BENAN’s luxurious fashions clearly speak of his Turkish roots, and readers who take the time to click on the image above will eventually be rewarded with a portrait of the friendly designer himself, dressed in an asymmetrical cardigan that works as a sort of scarf. Very elegant!

Gibron:
This is truly FANTASTIC!
I love his pride for his country, and that his models look like every day people and they vary in age.
A lovely vision, that is splendidly executed.

umit’s mother country is germany. that said, i think the concept of nationality isn’t really appropriate for a guy like benan who also used to live in the us and switzerland, and is now a Milano resident. when someone like van noten e.g. comes up with Indian tunikas nobody ever connects this to his hometown, which is Antwerps. Cultural diversity can be very inspiring, regardless of a designer’s mother country.
Mrs.Mo:
lovely presentation. a real mood lifter.
