Having finally realised his childhood dream, Mr. ANDREW T. VOTTERO from Brooklyn, New York, enthusiastically recommends keeping a small flock of hens in one’s backyard. Not only are the chicks gorgeous, curious, fluffy creatures that make entertaining pets, but they eventually grow into elegant, stately birds that lay eggs so delicious they make the supermarket version taste like a joke. For his brood, ANDREW drove out to a farm supply centre where he bought one of each kind available: Golden Comet, Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, and Silver-Laced Wyandotte. The birds not only give the simple pleasure that keeping a pet often yields, but also the subtle satisfaction of living off one’s own land.

I just found out chickens can withstand cold winters. I would love to live in an apartment with a backyard to experiment with some chickens.
Haha, a friend of mine recently inherited some hens from a taxi driver. Believe it or not she brought them down to London in a box on a train from the country and proceeded to meet with a friend for “cock”tails at a swanky bar, said chickens in tow! However, their Sojourn In The City was short-lived as her housemate returned and didn’t like the new additions to the family. They were soon sent packing back to a friend’s farm in the country. Bonkers.
