We’re currently in the midst of the now-out ‘Cooked – a natural history of transformation’ by MICHAEL POLLAN. ‘Cooked’ is a serious 446-page celebration of the joy of getting ones hands dirty in the kitchen, which MICHAEL heartily recommends in the most recent issue of FANTASTIC MAN. The book is similar in style to his other modern food classics – ‘The Omnivore’s Dilemma’ and ‘Food Rules’ – and is filled with expectantly pragmatic prose, such as this passage that we came across last night: ‘Is there anyone alive who actually enjoys chopping onions?’. Besides chopping onions MICHAEL goes on to discuss how to bake bread, make pickles and cheese, roast a pork shoulder and even includes a few yummy recipes in the back. Bon appetite!
