Remarkable but true: FANTASTIC MAN has provided a whole decade of entertainment and excitement in magazine form. Throughout its anniversary year and beyond, the original style journal for men will continue to redefine the genre.
Fantastic Man’s celebrations of a remarkable decade in print continue with this glorious issue for Autumn and Winter 2015. On the cover is the effervescent actor KYLE MacLACHLAN, currently on the precipice of a comeback 25 years in the making. Photographed by Inez & Vinoodh, the ‘Twin Peaks’ star can be found bathed in red on certain limited edition covers. Inside the issue, model CLÉMENT CHABERNAUD spectacularly showcases the most significant looks of the past decade’s menswear collections. A series of fabulous profiles includes the actor JEFFREY TAMBOR, former Mr. Universe BOB PARIS, the architect IPPOLITO PESTELLINI LAPARELLI, menswear designer CRAIG GREEN and the identical twins and Olympic rowers TYLER and CAMERON WINKLEVOSS. Coincidentally, the actor JESSE EISENBERG – who of course played the twins’ arch-nemesis, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, in the 2010 film ‘The Social Network’ – also makes an appearance in the issue. He’s one of the 22 men (and women) who feature in a sixty-page menswear extravaganza, which is shot in the simple yet effective straight-up style of photography. As always, this issue includes a number of sartorial contemplations, plus chats with men with curious vocations. There’s also a monumental visual odyssey through the country from which this magazine hails, The Netherlands, shot by the phenomenally talented British photographer JAMIE HAWKESWORTH. Fantastic Man’s 22nd issue is, put simply, enormous.
The anniversary celebrations in honour of Fantastic Man’s 10 years in existence culminated in a spectacular blow-out on Thursday 24 September 2015 in London. Held in collaboration with adidas, ten of the magazine’s close friends were invited to co-host and contribute to the evening’s entertainment. The stellar line-up included a captivating fashion show of STEFANO PILATI’s favourite looks, customised Fantastic Man covers by JEREMY DELLER, a Tanqueray cocktail designed by disco queen AMANDA LEAR, culinary treats provided by FERGUS HENDERSON, a birthday broadcast from RICHARD QUEST, DJ sets from ALEXIS TAYLOR and WOLFGANG TILLMANS, a cake by FRANCESCO VEZZOLI and the hilarious DAVID MILLS as master of ceremonies. Not to mention, the unveiling of the Fantastic Man retrospective edited by EMILY KING and published by PHAIDON. Phew! Special thanks to Veuve Clicquot and Peroni for keeping everyone so well hydrated on the night, as well as to Abel Sloane, Michelle Sugar Art and Wendy Aldridge at Homeplace. Here’s to another 10 years.
Encapsulating a decade of Fantastic Man, ‘Fantastic Man: Men of great style and substance’, published by PHAIDON, is available at many fine bookstores around the world. Edited by the cherished friend and long-term Fantastic Man contributor Emily King, the esteemed design writer and curator, the book is chock-full of the many different men whose style and intelligence have graced the pages of the magazine. On the cover, that iconic image of OLLIE EDWARDS shot by COLLIER SCHORR for Fantastic Man’s 18th issue, in which he dons the limited-edition ‘Man Fantastic’ T-shirt, made in collaboration with CARHARTT WIP. Inside, no less than 69 interviews with the world’s most fabulous men from the Fantastic Man archives, reprinted for the first time, plus visual explorations of the unique and singular aesthetic vision of the magazine. Some of the men featured, in no particular order, include TOM FORD, REM KOOLHAAS, FERGUS HENDERSON, DAVID WALLIAMS, HELMUT LANG, DAVID BECKHAM, and BRYAN FERRY. It’s hard to believe that 10 years has passed since Fantastic Man launched its first issue with a social gathering at COLETTE in Paris. To celebrate a spectacular decade, friends of Fantastic Man and LOEWE flocked to London night venue THE GLORY on Thursday, the 2nd of July, 2015. The guest of honour was of course Fantastic Man issue no. 21’s cover star JONATHAN ANDERSON. The jollifications were made all the more memorable by DJ JEFFREY HINTON’s banging music set, which ensured revelrous dancing throughout the evening. Oh, what a night!
Pictured above is a delectable spread of enlightening printed matter from the same stable as Fantastic Man. From left to right: THE GENTLEWOMAN is our cherished sister publication, of course. Produced from the heart of fashionable London, it carries exquisite style suggestions as well as conversation and writing contributed by the world’s most amazing women. That vision in pink is FOREVER BUTT, the new hard-backed compendium for TASCHEN of the best and baddest bits of BUTT, our celebrated magazine for homosexuals. COS magazine is a chic cultural biannual produced for the retailer of the same name, featuring insightful interviews with luminaries from the worlds of art, design and technology. Next: two collaborations with the book publisher PENGUIN. From 2013, BUTTONED-UP is a book exploring the fashions of East London. THE HAPPY READER is a bookish quarterly devoted to the pleasures of devouring the written word. The third issue is out now.

30.05.2011 – Made from the fibres of the flax plant, linen is a resilient but often temperamental fabric – it’s infamous for creasing. This week, DAILY RECOMMENDATIONS examines a number of total linen looks such as the rather sharp ensemble above composed of a shirt by DOCKERS in a wonderful tobacco hue, a stunning pair of pleated linen trousers by YSL, and the omnipresent and fashion-fabulous PRADA espadrilles brogues.
06.12.2010 – Intentions are made clear by the motif of this A.P.C. sweater, which indicates that bracing winter holidays are high in mind. The sweater looks fetching at any altitude. It is worn over a UNIQLO ribbed roll-neck, with trousers by PAUL SMITH.
